Microsoft and RIM will bring Windows Live Services to BlackBerry Smartphone Customers

Blackberry customers will be able to use Microsoft Live Messenger, Microsoft Live Hotmail in a more integrated fashion on their devices.

Rim launched the Blackberry Bold (aka Blackberry 9000) Sunday.

Some of the features include
- a half-VGA (480×320 pixel resolution)
- a 65,000-color display
- QWERTY Keyboard

Measurements
- 4.5 inches tall
- 2.6 inches wide
- 0.5 inches deep
- weighs 4.7 ounces

How Accessible Are You - Really?

Who is the real winner when the employee is handed a Blackberry? Is it the employee as they have been given a great tool to make the more productive? Or is the company that gave the employee the Blackberry to make them more productive?

The employee starts to get emails 7/24, they become addicted to the technology and have a tendancy to use it more and more and more over time.

Does the company start to have a “We Own You” mentality raising their expectations and expecting prompt email response?

When I speak to clients - it is amazing how many companies are creating the culture that Blackberry use is the 1st priority.

Work Life Balance and Technology

A recent 17 country global survey conducted for Robert Half earlier this year found that Canadians are some of the hardest workers in the world. Since unemployment is so low, people find temselves working through a lot of excess work and needing to be more available to get work done.

The survey of 2,300 finance and accounting managers and confirmed the following findings:
Luxembourg and Japan put in longer hours at the office. It appears Canadians work longer hours than their counterparts in France, Switzerland or even the United States.

Here are some of the statistics -

Average number of hours worked:
- Luxembourg - 47.6
- Japan - 47.1
- Ireland - 45.8
- Canada - 42.5
- US - 40.9
- Switzerland - 36.4

As for email access after hours here are the statistics:
Number of responsents that occasionally check e-mail after hours:
- Canada - 83%
- Hong Kong - 83%

Number of respondents that always check e-mail after hours
- Netherlands - 46%
- Canada - 44%

Number of responents that take a PDA or laptop on vacation:
- Hong Kong - 90%
- Canada - 38%
- Ireland - 16%
